The online application

What you should definitely pay attention to when applying online

An online application is an application that you send over the internet. Either by email or via an online form from a company or job board. It's always important to find out exactly whether online applications are even desired and which type of online application is preferred. If there's no indication in the training advertisement, you should inquire by phone.

The complete email application

In terms of content and structure, this type of application is no different from a paper application. This means that the cover letter and resume must be prepared just as carefully. A "complete" email application means that you include all your application documents as attachments. Only do this if the company requests it.

Here's how to do it:
Write your cover letter in the email.
Scan your application photo, references, and certifications and save them. Give the files easily recognizable names. This also applies to your resume file.
Pay attention to the size of your attachments so they don't clog up the recipient's inbox. These should be a maximum of 500 KB in total.
Print out the entire email application. Check that all documents are legible.
Send a test email to your friends or yourself beforehand.
If you haven't received a response after two weeks, follow up by phone.

The practical short application

If you just want to contact a company to inquire about apprenticeship openings, send a short application. An email is the fastest and most convenient way to do this – also for the recipient.

Here's how:
In the email, write your cover letter: short, informative, and interesting.
Attach your resume.
Offer to send additional documents upon request.

The company's own application form

Many companies are increasingly using special online application forms to select suitable candidates. If such a form is offered on a company's website, it should always be used.

How to fill out the form:
First, read all the questions carefully. Then enter your answers regarding your education, skills, and practical experience carefully and calmly.
Have all required application documents ready for uploading.
Use fields like "other skills" or "other information" to succinctly highlight your special skills. In some forms, these fields even replace the cover letter.
Only submit the form when you are sure you have completed everything thoroughly and properly. Because: What’s gone is gone!
