Someone is in distress, whether due to an accident or a sudden illness like a heart attack – and you feel the urge to help? With training as an emergency medical technician (EMT), you'll become a medical professional who provides care to accident victims or patients in acute emergencies. When you're called to an incident, you'll quickly assess the situation and provide initial patient care. You'll perform life-saving measures, stabilize the injured or ill person, and ensure their safe transport to the hospital. As an EMT, you'll earn the highest non-physician qualification in emergency medical services. You'll receive comprehensive training for this demanding role. The theoretical component provides you with detailed knowledge, which you'll then apply directly in practical training at the ambulance station or hospital. Training Content

  • Assessing and recording the situation at the scene of the incident and immediately initiating necessary general measures to avert danger.
  • Assessing the health status of sick and injured persons,
  • Recognizing a vital threat,
  • Deciding on the need to request an emergency physician, additional personnel, further rescue equipment or other medical assistance,
  • as well as implementing the necessary measures,
  • Performing initial medical care measures for patients during emergency operations
  • appropriate handling of people in emergency and crisis situations,
  • Establishing and ensuring the transportability of patients during emergency operations,
  • Independent performance of medical procedures authorized by the Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services (ÄLRD)

  • Intermediate school leaving certificate (= Realschule leaving certificate) or
  • Secondary school leaving certificate and completed vocational training of at least 2 years' duration
  • Health suitability for practicing the profession
