Job Description

Thanks to you, no one will be shipwrecked – Boatbuilding Apprenticeship. Water is your element, but a job as a lifeguard is a bit too wet for you? You enjoy working with your hands, but find the woods too dense for your liking? Perhaps you're a born boatbuilder! This profession revolves around the construction and maintenance of watercraft. As a boatbuilder, you can expect a diverse range of tasks. You'll design small and large boats and ships, and to prevent leaks, you'll keep them in top condition. If a leak does occur, you'll seal it. You'll also be responsible for any questions or problems related to the onboard technology. Whether in the workshop, on board a ship, or in dry dock: you'll be the go-to expert for all things watercraft.

Training Content

  • Selection of woods, wood-based materials, semi-finished plastic products, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Screwing and riveting of components, assembly and testing of hatches and windows
  • Installation of the tank, pipe and hose systems and leak testing
  • Preparation, execution and documentation of inspections of plants and systems
  • Differences between hull types and shapes as well as longitudinal and transverse bracing, reading construction drawings, consideration of construction specifications
  • Selection of manufacturing processes for masts and spars
  • Examination and documentation of the hulls and superstructures for structural and material damage
  • preventive surface protection in underwater areas
