Aircraft mechanics specializing in maintenance technology check the functionality and safety of aircraft and their systems after every landing and before every takeoff during aircraft checks. They also overhaul aircraft at predetermined intervals. During these checks, they inspect components such as the fuselage, wings, tail assembly, landing gear, and engines for damage, test safety devices, measure electrical systems, and analyze onboard computer data. They disassemble individual system components, such as mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic assemblies or engines, into their individual parts. They clean components, replace worn or defective parts, reassemble systems, adjust them, and test their function. In addition to regular maintenance, unplanned maintenance work also arises: If, for example, a system fails or an onboard computer displays a fault, aircraft mechanics troubleshoot, systematically identify the causes of the problem, and rectify it.
